# Group Management
Groups are a key component of every access control policy. Within the CoB platform, they can be structured on a organizational basis (aggregating all the users belonging to the same organization) or on a functional basis. You can read more about how to organize your groups in this explanation.
Groups can be see as intermediate entities between users, their roles and the set of permissions assigned to each role. Although users inherit group permissions, those permissions are not directly assigned to groups.
Within the CoB platform, groups can be managed from your server's UserM interface. Once there, click on the Groups
link located on the top right navigation bar.
