Creating a new device

Creating new devices manually

To create a new device, select the Equipments tab in the upper right menu and then click on the Add button. A new window will immediately appear, showing a form where the information required to create the new device must be entered:

The form is composed of eight fields, with some of them - namely Name, Brand, and IP - being mandatory, meaning its filling is required to successfully complete the operation. These fields can be distinguished from the others by the presence of a red asterisk next to them.

FieldDescription
NameA name that identifies the device in the system. The device name must be unique.
BrandThe device brand. Supported brands are: [cisco | panasonic | motorola | teldat | generic-ssh].
IPThe device IP address in IPv4 or IPv6 format.
UsernameThe account used to authenticate on the device via Telnet or SSH.
PasswordThe password used to authenticate on the device via Telnet or SSH.
Notification EmailThe email address used to receive notifications of device events.
TimeoutConnection timeout.
StateDevice state. Possible values are: [ Enabled | Quarantine | Disabled ].

When you finish filling all the required information click on the Save button. A new equipment will be immediately created in the platform.

Importing new equipments from a file

Although convenient when adding a small number of devices, the new equipment creation form can be a tedious and time consuming method when we need to add large numbers of devices. To facilitate this type of tasks, the CoB platform allows you to import the information from a CSV (Comma-Separated Values) file.

Example of a CSV file:

To upload a CSV file with the information that is required to create new devices, click on the Upload button located on the actions bar.

A modal window will appear asking you to select the file from your hard drive you want to upload. To complete the action click on the Upload button inside the modal window. The file will be uploaded and immediately parsed. The new devices will by now have been created.
